Tamarindo from Playa Grande

Tamarindo is Guanacaste's busiest beach town. Staying in Playa Grande gives you its restaurants and nightlife when you want them, and quiet nights when you don't.

  • Boat taxi across the estuary (~5 min): Small boats shuttle between the south end of Playa Grande and Tamarindo beach. Fast and scenic; daytime and early evening.
  • By car (~25 min): The road goes inland around the estuary via Huacas and Villarreal.

Never wade or swim across the estuary mouth. Strong tidal currents run through it and it is home to crocodiles.
